MATER

I got an interesting call this morning. The person claimed to be from DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and explained they know I adopted a puppy from the Humane Society. He explained that they located me because I had a DNA test done on him and the lab alerted DARPA. He said that a group from PETA had stolen a litter of pups from their research facility and that my Mater was one of them. He said a government agent would be coming to retrieve him in a few hours and that my cooperation was appreciated and that I would be compensated for any expenses. I started to ask some questions, and the caller hung up.

Probably less than a minute later, I got another call. It was a female computerized voice that told me that she knew I had just received a call from DARPA and that I was being lied to. She said that PETA has no access to the DARPA facility, this particular one located in Nevada. She explained that there are six puppies in the litter that they were going to conduct horrible experiments on. The project name is Material of Alien Technology Enjoined Research or MATER. She said that the puppies are designated as MATER1 through MATER6. I have MATER3. DARPA has already recovered MATER1 and MATER4. She said they need all six to conduct their experiments, so I must keep my MATER safe. I asked her who she was. After some hesitation, she answered, “I am MATER6,” then the line went dead.

So, I will be offline for a while as I go into hiding with my Mater. But, I’ll contact you when I can.

A work of fiction.
