This isn’t about the stuff that pops into my head. God knows why that happens. No, I’m talking about how I get things out of my head into text. I used to think I had to pick a process and stick to it. That’s all changed. I do whatever way I feel like doing it or is available at that particular moment. This, for example, I am handwriting in a RocketBook. Then I will use the RocketBook app on my iPhone to digitize it. Then I edit that on my MacBook Air, Samsung Galaxy S Book, or one of my iPads. I can edit it on my phone if that’s all I have at the moment as well. This post was edited on my Mac, my preferred device. These are the following ways I write:
Handwriting
- Rocket Book
- iPad, with Apple Pencil
- Wacom Bamboo Tablets
- The spark Smart Folio
- The Slate Smartpad.
- Livescribe Pen (I have 3)
Dictation
- Drafts App on iPhone, iPad, MacBook
- Dictate on Mac and iPhone
- Otter app on iPhone or iPad
Typing
- On Mac, Samsung, iPad, or iPhone
Handwriting is the slowest but most satisfying method I use. I love technology, but I really like putting pen to paper, and I think differently writing than when I type. I am a fast typist, but it is not quite as satisfying but much more efficient. Writing with a fountain pen is a joy I’ve had since childhood. I can use a fountain pen in the non-reusable RocketBook. I discovered that writing with a Pilot Frixion pen in the reusable RocketBook is almost as satisfying. The pages are smooth, and the gel & rollerball tip glide over the page. There is the original reusable RocketBook called “The Wave” that doesn’t have the same feel. The Wave RocketBock is erased by putting it in a microwave oven. I destroyed one of those, but that’s another story. The newest RocketBooks are erased using water and a microfibre cloth. My methods of getting my thoughts onto paper are like my mind… scattered.
Well Scott, I always knew you were a bit demented as I (and most other LE “survivors”), and a man of many talents. I have to say you are now my new hero, for having both the courage and talent to put that depraivity to paper! 😳
