All the information is from my perspective from being involved in the hiring process in the State of California at many different law enforcement agencies, as well as being the one doing the hiring. Again, this is from my perspective and one size does not necessarily fit all, but it will fit most.

Welcome to my blog. Ok, I have seen some things…you know, people trying to get hired in law enforcement. There are some good candidates who do not know how to put their best foot forward. Not too long ago, I had the attitude that if they can’t figure out how to do it, they are likely not a good candidate. I have reconsidered that because we have hired those best-foot-forward deficient candidates at my agency, and most have ended up being great cops or dispatchers. So, I was wrong. Now I want to help. I want to help anyone who needs it to get hired. Face it; law enforcement needs good candidates. I mean, who wants to be a cop anymore? A lot of people do, but these days will consider other lines of work. 99.9% of all applicants want to be in law enforcement because they want to help people…contrary to some public belief, we want POWER. I’ve been doing it for 40 years, and I have not seen that, at least in California. Those types of applicants are weeded out usually during the extensive backgrounds that are done or at the mandatory psych evaluation that many other states don’t have. Although not required by law, candidates usually also go through a detection of deception exam, which is either a polygraph of a CVSA (Computerized Voice Stress Analysis).
I will be writing about various aspects of the hiring process and welcome you to ask questions through the contact page. I am not selling anything or sending out newsletters (yet). I will not give anyone your contact information.
